Adding another tribunal will make Ontario auto dispute resolution system worse

Charles Sousa, Ontario Minister of Finance, just released the report of the Honourable J. Douglas Cunningham on the Automobile Insurance Dispute Resolution System (DRS) in Ontario.

Although his review was for the purpose of speeding up claims settlements and reducing costs, it would appear that more people will be needed and costs increased. FSCO is already outsourcing mediation and arbitration work because the current system is outdated and has been changed many times since 1986.

Adding another “tribunal” will make matters worse. Ontario insurance premiums are among the highest in Canada and the United States since the Province continues to hold onto a costly no-fault system that should be replaced, not just tinkered with. It is time to bring in a political party that will make positive changes.
